Dialysis

Dialysis is a medical treatment that performs the essential functions of the kidneys when they can no longer work properly. It removes waste products, excess fluids, and toxins from the blood, helping to balance electrolytes and maintain safe levels of important chemicals like potassium and sodium. There are two main types of dialysis: **hemodialysis**, where blood is filtered through a machine outside the body, and **peritoneal dialysis**, which uses the lining of the abdomen to filter blood inside the body. Dialysis is a life-sustaining therapy for people with kidney failure, managed under the care of nephrologists and specialized nurses.
